Enterprise architectures have been evolving over the years to the point where some organizations recognize that a tightly coupled application infrastructure restricts their capability and reduces their effectiveness in responding to the business needs that drive their success. The evolution of Web Services has had an important role in that realization.

The advent of Web Services concepts have driven enterprise architects to envision an infrastructure that provides access to information consumers whenever and wherever it is needed without regard for where that information resides. These concepts have gradually given way to the notion of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Service Oriented Development of Applications (SODA).

Many organizations have begun to establish parts of such an infrastructure but most have not been able to make a full transition and will not for some time to come. CoreSpeed helps these organizations through this evolutionary process as they create environments that leverage traditional architectures while moving in the direction of SOA.

For example, not every organization has had the luxury or budget to establish a “green field” initiative to create services around all of their systems. Some have utilized traditional code based integrations while others are leveraging traditional messaging buses as a starting point and hope to reduce their dependence on proprietary connections to data sources over time.

The complexity of such solutions can sometimes inhibit their implementation in some organizations. One strategy that is employed is to continue with existing systems as they are, and as applications reach end-of-life, begin to enable their replacements with service capabilities.

Most initial integrations take the form of simple xml services provided via http(s). As service creation skills mature, Web Services technologies such as Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Web Services Description Language (WSDL) begin to be used and thus form a stronger foundation for SOA. The increasing maturity of Web Services specifications for transactions and security are also responsible for allowing secure and reliable enablement of more enterprise business processes.

CoreSpeed aids organizations in establishing or extending intelligent Service Oriented Architectures that is many cases leverage Web Services.
